"Data! Data! Data!" Sherlock Holmes used to cry impatiently, "I can't make bricks without clay." It took European legislators some time to realize that such a fundamental resource as data should not remain underregulated. Throughout history, data have largely been unregulated, leading to the emergence of monopolies when technological progress met a lack of regulation. For centuries, legislators often dismantled one monopoly only to create another. Recently, however, the focus has shifted towards providing stakeholders with rights of access to data, marking a significant change. In this context, the European strategy for data, which resulted in the adoption of several new regulations (such as the Data Governance Act, Digital Services Act, Data Act), can be seen as a true Copernican revolution. Click here to register.
